“Drive Line”
With 55 members and guests in attendance, the meeting for May, 2026 was held at the Southaven Library. Bill Mullis, Jimmy Hill, David Meek, Bill Russell, Larry Lewis, Andy Mayhall, and Sonny Grisham force fed us BBQ, beans, tater salad, slaw with cake for dessert. It didn’t take a lot of force!
After the meal, Johnny welcomed all and read out the Birthdays for May. Johnnie then reported on the progress made so far concerning the show. We nailed down our three Host Hotels for the event. They are the Drury Hotel, the LaQuinta Hotel and the Windam Hotel. The Wingate and LaQuinta are $125.00 a night with breakfast, and the Drury is $130.00 a night with breakfast, dinner and three drinks nightly. The Southaven Tourist Commission still hasn’t committed to any money Johnnie is going to meet with her this week and try to nail it down. He has talked to the Sheriff Department and they are working on a security detail for the event.
Johnnie had 1000 more flyers printed with the updated info on them and they all got taken by members to pass out. He will order 1000 more this week.
We had one visitor, Tim Steele (2nd meeting) and voted in one new member Sydney Davis.
We have added several new sponsors for the show and plan to get more. He also reported that we now have a contact that can provide up to 50 venders for the event. We don’t think we will need that amount but we will try to get as many as we can that are car related, manly man related and a few more for the ladies!
There were many suggestions made concerning the show. Like increasing our presence on Facebook as well as on our website. This will keep our show on the forefront of people’s mind. It was also suggested that we up our pre-registration fee to around $40.00 and $50.00 at the gate. All the other larger shows around the area have increased their entry fee and don’t give away a third of what we do. Something to consider for next year.
Money winners for May were:
Bill Russell winning $75.00
Raymond Montgomery winning $75.00
Mike Cooper winning $75.00
I made the usual $5.00 donation

HUMOR
Buddy and Cookie were on vacation and as they were driving down the Interstate they came upon a sign that “Nacadoches, forty miles ahead”. They began to argue about how to correctly pronounce the name Nacadoches! Buddy got so upset that he told Cookie that when they got to town , he was going to stop and prove to her that she was wrong! They traveled in silence for the next thirty minutes. Neither one speaking to the other. When they arrived in town, Buddy pulled into the first business he saw. They both marched up to the counter. Buddy told the young girl behind the counter that “My wife and I have been arguing for thirty minutes. Would you please, very slowly, very clearly, tell us how to pronounce the name of this place”? The young girl eyes got big and She waited a few seconds and then replied “BURGER KING”!
A husband and wife are is custody court. The judge looks sternly at the ex-wife and asks “Why do you think you deserve custody of this child?” The ex-wife answers “ I brought him into this world and therefore I should have custody!” That’s a simple but good answer says the Judge. Then the judge looks at the ex-husband and asks “why do you think you deserve custody of the child?” The husband thinks for a minute, worried about his ex-wife’s answer! Then he looks up and the judge and states ”Your Honor, if I walk up to a Pepsi machine and put my money in, when the Pepsi comes out is it mine or is it the machines?”
